UN EXTRAIT DE SON INTERVENTION.
 
« All has been said about the state of the world globally and the water crises, started in southern countries, is now a reality in Europe. scientists have warned us since the 70’s. But somehow it seems that mankind is blind and deaf to it’s self destruction. When I say mankind, I should be more precise. Indeed The responsibility of Europe and most crucially Europe’s richest people is factual. So beyond the sharing of knowledge  that you will be doing this week and which is a source of inspiration  for public policy makers like me, the core question remains : how do we change the world to make it resilient and equitable ? 

We are at the crossing of two political paths: one which believes that the development of technologies and artificial intelligence will be the solution. The other one: Nature based solutions , low resource input in human activities and resource sharing for a desirable futur. The IPCC has been clear: we have 3 years to slow down. And learn how to adapt. Fast. I believe elected representatives and civil servants have the keys to many of the changes needed. Whilst they can also be responsible for climate inaction. The local councils have the power to reach out to people and change their everyday lives, creating new habits, transforming consumerism into social bondage. I believe we can serve the common good locally and contribute to global change. 

Water is at the core of our activities here in the Touraine Valley: vegetable farming, orchards, vineyards, and flower gardening : we are proudly known for centuries as the Garden of France. But the reality is also and among others the cooling down of nuclear plants, open air agricultural reservoirs, intensive corn farming and deep pollution of our waters. And drought at our doorstep. Global warming is an issue but the wasting of our resources is another one on which we have leverage. Pessimistic in thoughts but optimistic in action, I wish you an excellent week of réflexion, exchanges, and mutual enrichment. Thank you.
