TRAGEDY: A black employee of Canadian Heritage commits suicide
Yannick Doirin, Senior Policy Analyst with Canadian Heritage (Gatineau, Quebec), a 40 y.o. Canadian woman of Haitian origin, committed suicide in the following circumstances: something happened at a meeting (there are several reports from colleagues that she was passed over for promotion); she got really upset and left the staff meeting abruptly, went home... and jumped from the
14th floor of her apartment.
Yes you read it: this is what happened to a black employee of Canadian Heritage, in the Nation's Capital, in 2008, in the Department responsible for human rights, multiculturalism and Canada's Action Plan Against Racism.
Prolonged and intense stress is not good for anyone. We know that stress can kill. So can inequality and racism.
The Yannick Doirin tragedy warrants a full inquest.
