Dream for Haiti Presents: Vodou'm Art Exhibit Presenting the Works of self-taught artist Kal Telemak Saturday October 17th from 7pm to 11pm Casa Frela Gallery is proud to invite the public to an art exhibit: "Vodou'm", exhibiting the works of Self Taught Artist Kal Telemak as presented by Dream for Haiti project. "Vodou'm" art exhibit will feature the Steel drum metal sculptures of the Yoruba Orishas and Haitian Vodou Vèvè, as well as a series of paintings: "Harlem Hues."
Telemak's stunning sculptures demonstrates the fundamental relationship between the Yoruba Orishas and the Vodou Lwa of Haiti. His paintings depict sexy yet strong warrior women of revolutionary Haiti who are in touch with their spirituality. Similar to his sculptures, the paintings' texture tempts the senses. Using a variety of techniques and media, Kal Telemak takes painting to another level. | |
| About the Artist Telemak moved to New York City to escape an abusive father who forbade him to become what he was his whole life. According to Kal Telemak, "When art lives in you, it is like living with spirits who never stop talking to you. Painting is my Vodou. I was chosen to do this and I accept my fate. I will use it to mark my existence on Earth." Without any formal training in visual and performing arts, Kal Telemak is a painter, playwright, producer and actor. His current play, which he co-wrote with his partner Dulyne Desmangles, entitled "Bwa Kayiman: A prelude to the Haitian Revolution," is travelling throughout the US. The artist holds a BA in Psychology, a Master degree in Public Administration, and he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Political Science.Kal Telemak is the founder of "Dream for Haiti project."
