uesday's operation marks the second drug bust for the Coast Guard's Paul Clarke ship. According to Belcher, the new vessel, which is only a year old, is more efficient than past ships. "These ships are actually replacing the 110-foot vessel," he said. "They're faster, they're more efficient, they have a lot more sensors that are able to detect these types of vessels, and we also have a small vessel on our ship. It's even faster than the Cutter."
The bust was the result of a collaboration between a team from the Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security and Bahamian officials. "All told, we've got the right tools right now to stop these smugglers from bringing illegal contraband into the United States," said Belcher.
While officials did get the drugs, they're still searching for the people who were on that boat. The investigation continues.
