Bonjou,
The CUNY Haitian Studies Institute along with the Haitian Studies Association and Espas Kreyòl will host the online dialogue: The Rise and Fall of President Jovenel Moise: Haitian Politics in the Twenty-first Century on Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 4 pm to 6 pm (ET). This gathering will create a space to discuss, analyze and reflect on the most recent political events in Haiti. It is our collective hope that novel ideas will be explored during that dialogue to help Haiti and Haitians move beyond the crisis and to begin to build a new and more stable Haiti for the benefit of all Haitians.
The following four (4) axes will structure the discussion:
1. The circumstances that facilitated the ascension of Jovenel Moise to power
2. How President Jovenel Moise and his Administration managed the power
-His rapport with the Haitian people; the elites; the international community; and the political opposition
3. How to interpret/understand the event of July 7 or the assassination of President Moise
4. How to move beyond the historical conundrum for a new Haiti with a new conscientious citizenry
