Dear internationalist,

Over the years the NDP has often followed official foreign policy. The just released book Targeting Libya: Canadian Dams, Canadian Bombs is an indirect indictment of the party voting to attack Libya. That country has yet to recover from NATO's 2011 war.

The NDP also endorsed the Core Group in Haiti in 2021, supported belligerence towards China and immediately recognized Juan Guaidó in Venezuela in 2019. As recently as last year, leader Jagmeet Singh was smearing those opposing Canadian complicity in Israel’s genocide.

With Mark Carney massively increasing military spending, Donald Trump blowing up Venezuelan vessels and Ottawa continuing to assist a lawless apartheid state that’s committed a holocaust, it is essential the NDP not exclude internationalism from its leadership race. Please email the NDP to ask them to allow CFPI co-founder and a leading foreign policy critic, Yves Engler, to participate in party race.

TAKE ACTION

On Tuesday the largest aircraft carrier in the world, USS Gerald Ford, arrived in the Caribbean as part Donald Trump’s bid to overthrow Venezuela’s government. While the UK and France have distanced themselves from the US blowing up boats in the region, foreign affairs minister Anita Anand recently responded to a question about the illegality of US strikes by saying it’s “up to the U.S. to decide if it violated international law with Caribbean boat strikes”, reported the Hill Times. Canada is likely supporting US violence through NORAD, Operation Caribe and its small base in Kingston, Jamaica. We need politicians willing to denounce Canadian policy towards Venezuela.

Solidarity,

Team CFPI
