Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Thursday again called education the key ally to transform  the country and the main tool to surmount Dominican Republic’s poverty and social inequality.

"We shall not cease in our efforts until all Dominicans are totally free. A  country cannot achieve progress with low wages and uninformed people and education is the main step.

iThe 4% of GDP for education belongs to the people, it’s already a reality," Medina said, speaking in the commencement ceremony for more than 60,000 graduates of the National Literacy Plan “Quisqueya literate Learns With You.”

He said construction of a network of schools for adults will start next month, to advance to the new stage in the battle for education, to end social exclusion and inequality.

In that regard, the chief executive said 1,147 teachers will train up to 200,000 people nationwide and educational offerings for the literacy plan’s members will be created through the Technical and Vocational Training Institute (Infotep).

Dans cette optique, le chef de l'exécutif a ajouté que 1147 professeurs vont  former quelques 200 000 personnes à travers l'ensemble du pays; et des cours pour le projet d'alphabétisation seront cdispensés dans l'Institut de formation technique (Infotep)

"2,560 courses will be offered in several areas. We will aso support the development of their business ideas that can make them successful SMEs. Already, we offer 400 courses for entrepreneurial students through Quisqueya Learns With You, and of course have access to credit," he said.

Meanwhile, in the activity that began after 10:30 am at the Sports Palace, urged the graduates to continue developing and enhancing their experience, supporting and helping illiterates to form an effective educational chain across the country.
