Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina’s growing influence over Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party was evident yesterday during the tally of the votes to elect the 138 new members of its Central Committee.

Despite some technical difficulties and complaints, the vote count showed that candidates who support Medina over former president Leonel Fernandez won all 16 posts at stake in the South region and all 12 in the eastern region.

Medina’ strength was also proven by winning as many as 30 of the PLD’s 37 national posts up for grabs.

Ce résultat confime mes hypothèses concernant une lutte au sein même du part PLD entre les partisans de Fernandez et ceux de Medina.

Voting indicates between 25 and 30 of the 37 nationals

SANTO DOMINGO. The political machinery of President Danilo Medina is projecting that they will carry the majority of the new positions for the Central Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) at the national level. This would place this sector as the new dominant force in the PLD party structure.

The rhythm of the results that carry the "Danielists" assures them of between 25 and 30 of the 37 national positions so that they are only waiting for the final results of the 86 members that will be elected at the local level, where preliminary results indicate an even more crushing victory than at the national level.

A la suite des votes le courant de Medina a gagné 30 sur les 37 postes en jeu.

J'avais émis également une autre hypothèse, à ssavoir, l'instrumentalisation de la loi portant à la "dénationalisation" des Dominicains d'origine haïtienne, pouvant être une arme pour déstabiliser Medina, dont le taux de popularité est très élevé.

On a vu que, effectivement, Medina s'est retrouvé coincé entre le respect de la séparation des pouvoirs et donc de la décision de la Cour et sa compréhension différente du problème.

Du coup, il a tenté de lancer la possibilité de "renationaliser" les "dénationalisés" , ce qui permettrait de contourner la décision de justice.

Je vous rappelle également que pratiquement tous les membres de la Cour Constitutionnelle ont été nommés par Fernandez.

Depuis son arrivée, Medina tente de mener une politique d'assainissement de la vie politique en RD, de lutte contre la corruption, de réduction des dépendances de l'Etat et d'investissements dans des programmes visant à donner à long terme plus d'autonomie au pays (éducation, agriculture) de réduction du chômage. Bref, un programme moins bling/bling et moins tourné majoritairement vers le tourisme que celui de Fernandez.

Cette guerre de courants est si vraie, que le PLD suite à la convention et aux divisions internes au parti révélées, a organisé en huis-clos une rencontre au sommet.

Under harsh self-rebuke, ruling party holds key meetinglink

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina and former president Leonel Fernandez are = heading a meeting of the Political Committee the party of Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party being held behind closed doors Thursday morning.

The meeting comes just hours after senior PLD leader and co-founder Euclides Gutierrez Felix slammed his own organization, affirming that it was becoming “Perredeizada,” in reference to the opposition party, the PRD, known for constant infighting.

Contrary to his reputation of unpunctual, Fernandez arrived at 9:04am to the meeting scheduled for 9am, while Medina showed up a few minutes earlier at 8:58am.

Another harsh critic of his own party, senior leader José Tomás Pérez upon arrival at the meeting asked prudence from those members who campaigned to enter the PLD’s Central Committee in last Sunday’s elections.
